Daytrippers! is a collaboration between V&A Dundee and Local Heroes that supports designers by commissioning collectable, limited edition souvenirs. Part of the range celebrates Scotland’s native wildflowers with bespoke seed mixes by Scotia Seeds which when planted will help to support a wide variety of species. Little Butterflies has been hand painted by artist and designer Shweta Mistry using rare heritage art techniques and pigments. This bespoke seed mix includes plants that provide caterpillar food for two of Scotland's tiniest butterflies; Kidney Vetch for the rare Small Blue butterfly (and for whom the North East coast of Scotland is a vital home) and Rock Rose for the Northern Brown Argus.
Thrift (Armeria maritima) Perennial with dense tufted leaves from which abundant candy pink flowers emerge on stalks up to 25cm tall.
Kidney Vetch (Anthyllis vulneraria) Low growing perennial wildflower of coastal areas with fuzzy, yellow flower heads. Grows up to 20cm.
Rock Rose (Helianthemum nummularium) Low, spreading, yellow-flowered, perennial wildflower of sunny banks & cliffs. Great rockery plant.
Wild Thyme (Thymus polytrichus) Aromatic, low-growing & mat forming perennial shrub with small pink flowers. 5 cm tall.
Sowing: Can be sown at any time of the year but best in early autumn or spring. Keep the young plants weeded and watered but do not overwater.
