Elsa Schiaparelli revolutionised fashion with witty, imaginative couture that blended art and design. Hailed by Cristóbal Balenciaga as the “only real artist in couture,” she infused her collections with Surrealism and collaborated with leading artists including Man Ray, Jean Cocteau, Salvador Dalí and Alberto Giacometti.

Her daring yet wearable designs captivated high society and Hollywood alike. From Lilí Álvarez’s headline-making culottes at the 1931 Wimbledon tennis tournament to the iconic lobster dress worn by Wallis Simpson, Schiaparelli dressed some of the most influential women of the era, including Lauren Bacall, Marlene Dietrich and Josephine Baker. Her creations also appeared on stage and in more than 30 films.

Today, her unmistakable visual language continues to inspire Daniel Roseberry at Maison Schiaparelli. This beautifully illustrated book explores the life, creativity and enduring legacy of one of fashion’s most visionary designers.

With a section written by our very own Senior Curator, Kirsty Hassard, this is one very beautiful book!
