Meet the maker: Struan Haswell is a visual artist, volunteer zookeeper and member of the Toogs Artist Workshop — a neurodiverse creative community and making space in Burra Isle, Shetland.

One of the many talented artists supported through gaada, Struan’s work explores his deep interest in observing both the human and natural world. His weekly studio practice often begins with making lists that gather moments of intrigue and perplexity, which he then develops through drawing and printmaking.

Characterised by the pairing of his “no-nonsense” drawing style with hopeful, humorous (and often profound) statements, Struan’s work is always in pursuit of a world where everything just makes sense.

Toogs Artist Workshop forms part of gaada, an artist-led social enterprise providing resources, opportunities and support for artists across Shetland.
