A perfectly pretty fan brooch made locally, in Dundee by Claire McVinnie a printmaker at Dundee Contemporary Arts.
Chiyogami refers to traditional Japanese hand-screened decorative washi paper. Using chine colle, a traditional printmaking technique Claire pastes plywood before carefully smoothing the chiyogami paper over the surface. She then combines this old pasting technique with modern laser-cutting technology to create these delicate brooches.
Each brooch is a little different, each unique, each beautiful.
