Tatreez your own Tote and more with this vibrant embroidery kit, curated in collaboration with Jordan-based design collective, Folkglory and exhibition centre, Tiraz: Widad Kawar Home for Arab Dress.
Tatreez is a traditional form of Palestinian embroidery, characterized by intricate, hand-stitched geometric and floral patterns that reflect cultural identity, heritage, and regional stories.
The tatreez patterns featured in this kit were meticulously studied and sourced from Intifada dresses in the Widad Kawar Collection. The intifada dress refers to a specific type of Palestinian thobe that emerged during the First Intifada between 1987-1993. Unlike traditional thobes, its design incorporated political and cultural symbols such as the Palestinian flag, the map of Palestine and olive branches, often stitched in the flag's colours. This shift in design was a form of resistance, especially after the imprisonment of artists who used these national symbols in their artwork.
